Measuring of photosynthesis

Photosynthesis:

  • 6CO2 + 6H2O + photons → C6H12O6 + 6O2
  • Carbon dioxide + water + light energy → sugar + oxygen

Different measurement approaches

  • Measuring plant height or volume
    • Problem: Measurement errors
  • Measuring plant weight biomass
    • Problem: Variation in water content can be a huge error factor
  • CO2 or O2 measurements by gas sensors.

Since the concentration of O2 in free air is much higher (21%) than the CO2 concentration (400-500ppm), the relative change due to photosynthesis will me much higher for CO2 than O2 and a CO2 measurement will produce less measurements errors
