Gausdal Chess Festival 1997,1 -10 August, Gausdal Højfjellshotell


Results and games from Arnold J. Eikrem Memorial 1997 are available at Daði Örn Jónsson's Chess in Iceland. GM Einar Gausel, Norway and GM Nigel Davies, Wales shared first place with 7 points out of 9.
Welcome to the Gausdal chess festival. Chess around the clock, or combined with magnificent scenery and fresh air.

Arnold J. Eikrem Memorial 1997 ("Gausdal International")

2-10 August, 9 round Swiss. 40 moves/2 hours, 20/1hour, 30 minute finish. 1st round 2/8 at 19.30, last round 10/8 at 09.30. One round per day. Many GMs invited. The tournament is also open to players without an international Elo as of 1/7/97. It is possible to combine A.J. Eikrem Memorial with the open GM-tournament Jarleslaget in Trondheim which starts at August 11th!

Norwegian Grand Prix Events

Skei Grand Prix

1-3 August. 5 rounds, two groups over/under 1500. 40 moves/90 minutes. then game 30. 1st round 19.30, last round 14.30. Prizes: Group A: 2000, 1500, 1000, 500, + books. Group B: 1000, 750, 500, + books. Entry fee: 250, juniors 150.

Peer Gynt Open

4-8 August. 7 rounds, one group. 40 moves/2 hours, then game 60. 1st round starts 13.30, last round 09.00. Prizes: 2500, 1800, 1000, 500, + books. Prizes in all classes, and in age groups. Entry fee: 300, juniors 200.

Jarl Cup

9-10 August. 9 rounds, one group, game 30. First round 14.00 last round ca. 13.00. Prizes: 1500, 1000, 600, 400, + books. Entry fee: 200, juniors 100.

Combined Prize

Combined prize for participation in at least two Grand Prix tournaments. Best combined result from two GP tournaments: 1.000,- in each class (Master, 1,2,3,4.)

Accommodation

Gausdal Højfjellshotell

Gausdal Højfjellshotell offers the following specials: Hotel, full board (room with shower/bath, wc, three meals): single: 575,- double: 470,- 3-beds: 405,- 4-beds: 355,- per person per day. Child and family discounts.

At the hotel: Dance every evening, full bar. Swimming pool, tennis courts, 9-hole golf course, minigolf, skateboard, horseback riding, bicycle rental. Opportunities for fishing, hiking in unspoiled mountain scenery.

Skei Fjellandsby

300 meters from the playing hall. Three room flats/cabins w/ 2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen with refrigerator and dishwasher, for 5-6 people. Very high standard. 2800,- per cabin per week. Pub and bistro.

Segalstad Seter

200 meters from playing hall, camping for trailers and tents. Large grocery store and cafe.

Public communications/Transport

Gausdal is accessible by highway. Trains to Tretten from Oslo several times a day. Trains also from Trondheim and Åndalsnes. WELCOME to the Gausdal chess festival. Chess around the clock, or combined with magnificent scenery and fresh air.
