Hashcash

Hashcash is a new way to fight spam that may actually work. Of course the only way to truly get rid of the problem, is if nobody bought anything from spam mail, but we know that is never going to happen, just as people is never going to stop clicking on e-mail attachment with the wording "[Insert celebrity here] nude!". Another solution is if we need to pay for each mail we send, not an attractive solution. Hashcash however is a method to pay for mail with a little bit of time. Each time you send a mail, an unique stamp is generated and attached to the mail. This stamp takes a few seconds to generate, thus the time payment. This is no problem for your average mail usage, but if you are trying to send thousands of spam this will quickly prove infeasible. Check out the hashcash page for more information, including how to install it.
