Gausdal Chess Festival 1998

Friday July 31st - August 9th on Gausdal Høifjellshotel. With VISA Nordic Grand Prix Arnold J. Eikrem Memorial.

3. Arnold J. Eikrem Memorial - VISA NGP. GM Jonny Hector, Sweden, won a clear victory with 7,5 out of 9.

We welcome all chess players to this festival which is dedicated to the memory of Arnold J. Eikrem. Eikrem organized international tournaments in Gausdal since 1970, and this tradition will continue.

VISA Nordic Grand Prix Arnold J. Eikrem Memorial (3rd)

August 1st-9th, part of VISA Nordic Grand Prix 1998/99. GM- and IM norms available. 9 round Swiss. 40 moves/2 hours, 20 moves/1hour, 30 minutes to finish. 1st round Saturday 1st of August at 19:30, one round per day. Open to all with FIDE-rating, also a limited numbers of players without FIDE-rating. Several strong GMs are invited.

Prizes

Total fund NOK 35,500. All figures in Norwegian kroner (1 USD is approx 7.5 NOK).

Two prizes, Kr 1000 and 500, in each of the groups: 2200-2295, 2100-2195, and below 2100.

In addition VISA has set up prices to the best Nordic players:

Open Tournaments counting in Norges Grand Prix 1998. Total prize fund in these three tournaments NOK. 21,550 plus books.

Skei Grand Prix

31. July - 2. August. 5 rounds Monrad (Swiss). Group A Elo 1500 and higher, group B below Elo 1500. 90 minutes /40 moves + 30 minutes knockout. 1st round Friday at 19:30, last round Sunday at 14:30. Prizes: Group A: 2000, 1500, 1000, 500, + books. Group B: 1000, 750, 500, + books. Entry fee: 250, juniors 150.

Peer Gynt Open

3.-7. August. 7 rounds Monrad (Swiss) all in one group. 2 hours /40 moves + 1 hour finish. 1st round Monday at 13:30, last round Friday at 09:00. Prizes: 2500, 1800, 1000, 500, + books. Prizes to best players under Elo 2000, 1750, 1500, 1250 and best Junior. Entry fee: 300, juniors 200.

Jarl Cup

8.-9. August. 9 rounds Monrad (Swiss) all in one group. 30 minutes per player. 1st round Saturday at 14:00, last round Sunday at 13:00. Prizes: 1500, 1000, 600, 400, + books. Prizes to best players under Elo 2000, 1750, 1500 and 1250. Entry fee: 200, juniors 100.

Combined Prize

Combined prize for participation in at least two Grand Prix tournaments. Best combined result from two GP tournaments: 1.000,- in each class (Master, 1,2,3,4.)

Special prices on the playing site Gausdal Høifjellshotell: Board and lodging (room with shower/bath and wc, three good meals) Single room: NOK 595 , double room Nok 495 , 3-beds NOK 425 , 4-beds NOK 380 per person and day. Discounts for children and families .

Dance with live orchestra every night, 9 hole golf course, mini-golf, skateboard, tennis, swimming pool, horseback riding.

Skei Fjellandsby

300 meters from the playing site. Apartments/cottages with two bedrooms, living rooms, kitchen with refrigerator and dishwasher. Selfservice household for 5-6 persons. Price per unit per week NOK 2800.

Segalstad Seter

200 meters from playing site, camping and caravan parking. Cafeteria and grocery.

Public communications/Transport

Trains from Oslo to Tretten (3 1/2 hours) several times every day, then car (taxi) to the hotel.
